NichiBei Care members went to see the documentary, "Stories from Tohoku" at California Asian American Media Film Festival in San Jose.
Stephen Murphy-Shigematsu (right) and Nobuko Hattori (left) met with the co-directors Dianne Fukami (middle) and Eli Olsen. The message of the documentary strongly resonated with what many of NichiBei Care members have been hearing from the people from Tohoku.
Excerpt from the film "The intent was to show how funding raised by Japanese American non-profit organizations in the United States were helping Tohoku survivors in the rebuilding and recovery of Japan. What they ended up with were stories of resilience and strength, a deeper understanding of Japanese traditional values, and an opportunity to witness deep and enduring connections between Americans of Japanese ancestry and the people of Tohoku, Japan. The documentary is directed by Dianne Fukami and Eli Olson."
